NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — Police said 112 cats and a dog were removed from an uninhabitable home in North Las Vegas.

Animal control personnel responded to the home on Thursday after receiving a complaint that a woman was keeping several feral cats in her home.

Officers said they found a 47-year-old woman living in "horrible conditions" with no air conditioning, among other safety concerns.

Three animal control officers were taken to a hospital for heat exhaustion during the removal operation, which took about eight hours in temperatures that reached 110 degrees, police spokeswoman Chrissie Coon said.

They were released Thursday night, she said.

Coon said the animals were being evaluated in a shelter and it's unclear what will happen to them. Investigators were looking into whether the animals are in good health and were properly spayed or neutered.

Under most circumstances, North Las Vegas city code prohibits more than three dogs, three cats, and three ferrets over the age of 3 months at any one location or residence.

The woman's name was not released, and it wasn't immediately clear whether she was cited.

Gina Greisen, president of the Nevada Voters for Animals advocacy group, said she saw the home firsthand after responding to the woman's plea on a Facebook group asking for help with two dozen cats.

Greisen said the woman was worried that the landlord would discover the animals and call animal control.

Police said their investigation is ongoing.
