MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A suspicious package that briefly shut down parts of Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama contained only food.

Officials at the base in Montgomery said the package was found Friday during a routine inspection and initially tested positive for explosives. Security officials opened the package and realized it contained only food.

All activities on the base have returned to normal.

The package was found at the base post office at about 10 a.m. It was about the size of a box of checks.

During the investigation, security officials cordoned off the surrounding area and closed a nearby entrance to the base.
