SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The rate of unemployed Utah residents has dropped for the fourth straight month, falling to 3.5 percent in June.
Utah's jobless rate has been inching down as the state has recovered from the economic recession, when unemployment peaked at 8.4 percent.
Before the economic slowdown in late 2008, Utah's rate hovered around 3.4 percent.
The latest jobless report released Friday by the state Department of Workforce Services shows about 51,000 people were unemployed and looking for work in June.
DWS reports the trade, transportation and utilities industry gained the most new jobs last month, followed by construction and education and health services.
The national unemployment rate in June was 6.1 percent, down two percentage points from a month earlier.
