ELKO, Nev. (AP) — Federal land managers have given final approval to plans for a major mine project in northeastern Nevada. The Bureau of Land Management announced Friday it has issued a record of decision on the final environmental impact statement for Barrick-Dee Mining Venture's proposed Arturo Mine Project. Plans call for expansion of the Dee Gold Mine, an open-pit gold mine that is closed and undergoing reclamation.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Las Vegas Strip hotel security guard has been indicted on two counts of sexual assault involving women he escorted to their rooms. Prosecutors say both women Jerry Johnson is accused of sexually assaulting at the Wyndham were intoxicated. They say DNA evidence links him to both cases.

FERNLEY, Nev. (AP) — Lyon County sheriff's deputies have arrested a suspect in a shooting Fernley. The sheriff's office says 21-year-old Spencer Brown is being held on suspicion of attempted murder. Deputies responded to a call about 2 a.m. Friday at an apartment on Village Drive where a woman told them her boyfriend had shot a man. Deputies say the victim suffered a cut when a bullet apparently grazed his head.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Two environmental groups are appealing a federal judge's ruling upholding a regional plan regulating development at Lake Tahoe. Earthjustice filed the appeal last week with the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on behalf of the Sierra Club and Friends of the West Shore. The organizations say the environmental impact statement failed to analyze its negative effects on soil conservation and water and air quality.
