BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A conservation group and the Nez Perce Tribe are suing three federal agencies seeking to stop a gold mine exploration project in central Idaho. The suit contends the agencies didn't adhere to federal environmental laws in approving the three-year Golden Meadows Exploration Project proposed by Midas Gold.
CHALLIS, Idaho (AP) — Conservationist groups hoping to see a new national monument in central Idaho have added about 21,000 acres to the plan. The Idaho Conservation League, Wilderness Society and others want the Obama administration to create a national monument in the Boulder-White Clouds. The Times-News reports that the additional acres include Malm Gulch, an area containing petrified sequoia trees.
SANDPOINT, Idaho (AP) — A northern Idaho man who shot an Elmira resident in the face during a home invasion has pleaded guilty to attempted murder. The Bonner County Daily Bee reports that prosecutors say Joseph Cleveland fired at the victim from outside the home after the home invasion on March 10.
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A Florida man has been sentenced in federal court in Connecticut to three years' probation for possessing gun silencers made at Gemtech in Boise. Richard Sleeva also was ordered to perform 450 hours of community service. Authorities say Sleeva obtained silencers while on the board of directors of Gemtech. Prosecutors say he was removed from the board in 2001 when he failed to return silencers.
