PICAYUNE, Miss. (AP) — Picayune Memorial High School will allow students to use their cellphones on campus beginning this fall.

School principal Kent Kirkland tells The Picayune Item (http://bit.ly/1VNfl3V) the cellphones can be used before and after school, during breaks, in the hallways and during lunch.

A previous policy banned cellphone use on campus.

Kirkland says cellphones must remain on silent during the school day.

He says teachers can decide if they want to integrate cellphones into their classes.

Kirkland says if a student is caught using their cellphone during instructional time without the teacher's approval, the device will be taken away and their parents can come get it after school.
