CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada officials say initial claims for unemployment insurance climbed in November likely because of seasonal and short-term jobs ending. State officials say that more than 16,000 claims were filed in November. That's up from about 14,000 claims in October, and up 12 percent from the same time a year ago. State officials say initial claims tend to rise in the fall and winter.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police say a transit agency security guard who shot and killed a man at a Las Vegas Strip bus stop near the Paris casino early Monday morning did so in self-defense. Las Vegas Police say 35-year-old Christopher Boudinot started the shootout. Police say the Boudinot had an invalid bus pass and the security guard asked him to get off the bus. Police say Boudinot approached the guard again and shot him six times.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Authorities investigating the killing of an 18-year-old Reno man are offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of suspects in the gang-related shooting. Police an argument between two groups of people escalated and parties from both sides produced weapons. One person fired several shots that struck Juan Rameriz.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Cosmopolitan hotel and casino will have a new owner as state regulators cleared the way for Deutsche Bank AG to sell the Las Vegas Strip resort to a division of the Blackstone Group for $1.73 billion. Blackstone executives say they're looking at converting housekeeping units into 46 additional hotel rooms.
