KEARNS, Utah (AP) — Charging documents show a Kearns woman accused of dumping her newborn in a neighbor's trash says she was afraid to tell her parents about the pregnancy. A probable cause statement released last night shows 23-year-old Alicia Englert told police she hoped the baby girl would die and solve her problems. Englert was arrested last night on suspicion of attempted murder. The baby girl was in critical condition.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission has approved a winemaking license for a new winery in the town of Hildale, home to a polygamous sect. Officials say the owners of Vintage Reserve Estates plan to sell wine through state liquor stores and apply for another license to sell the wine on their Hildale property along the Utah-Arizona line.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The family of a man who drowned in Willard Bay is offering the use of free life jackets. Brigham Bradley wasn't wearing a life jacket when he died in August 2013 after his jet ski broke down. The Deseret News reports Bradley's family put up two stands at Willard Bay Monday offering people the use of the life jackets for the day. Each stand holds about 15 jackets, purchased through grants and donation.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — Navajo President Ben Shelly's hopes for a second term were dashed yesterday when he failed to make it through the tribe's primary election. Navajo voters chose to send former President Joe Shirley Jr. and one-time Arizona Rep. Chris Deschene to the November general election. They were among 17 candidates vying for the top elected post on the country's largest American Indian reservation.
