OGDEN -- Formal charges have been filed against an Ogden woman accused of smothering her infant son.

Jewell Hendricks, 25, faces a single count of murder in the death of her 2-month-old son, Robert. Court documents state she admitted to wrapping the baby in a sleeping bag and then "bear hugging" him until he stopped crying Jan. 24.

When emergency responders arrived at the apartment building in the 400 block of 27th Street, the child was not breathing. They performed CPR on him while transporting him to the hospital, but once they arrived they pronounced him dead.

The boy's father was home at the time, but detectives say he woke up to Hendricks making the emergency call.

Hendricks' other child, Robert's twin brother, has been placed in protective custody.
