NORTH OGDEN -- A park in North Ogden is crowded with chubby ducks that are trying to stay for the winter.
The ducks at Bicentennial Park, on the corner of Washington Boulevard and Pleasant View Drive, are too fat to fly away, according to City Manager Ed Dickie. The Standard-Examiner reports on any given day, 50 to 100 ducks crowd into the park.
Dickie says the birds are beginning to become a nuisance. "They're getting fatter because of people feeding them," he explains.
Dickie says a lot of the animals are domesticated -- they've been dropped off at the park, and people bring bags of bread to feed them.
Their droppings can cover walkways and may pose a hazard to people walking through the area.
The city is considering rounding up some of the ducks and moving them to Willard Bay. A month ago city officials herded some ducks to the wetlands area across Washington Boulevard, but they returned.
