SALT LAKE CITY -- Salt Lake City police arrested a man after a domestic dispute turned violent Tuesday afternoon. They said the man got into a fight with his girlfriend, and then started firing shots into the air.

Police received a call around 2:45 p.m. from a person who said there was a family fight going on in a home near 400 North and 1900 West. Officers said between four and 10 shots were fired by a single gunman inside and outside of the home.

Upon arrival, police removed several children and adults from the house. A few minutes later, officers apprehended 18-year-old Ernesto Perez on the street. Perez had apparently exited the home before police arrived on the scene.

After Perez was arrested, a SWAT team went through the house just to make sure it was safe before police let neighbors back into their homes.

Perez now faces seven counts of aggravated assault, one count of domestic violence aggravated assault, three counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child and one count of tampering with evidence because investigators have not yet found the gun he allegedly used.
