SALT LAKE CITY -- A House committee gave its OK to a bill that would give some state and local police officers the power to enforce immigration laws.
The measure passed today with a 6-to-3 vote. House Bill 105 is sponsored by Representative Glenn Donnelson --- a North Ogden Republican.
Under the measure, certain officers would be allowed to perform some duties of a federal immigration officer. They include the investigation, apprehension and detention of illegal immigrants in the United States.
The legislation is now headed to the full House.
