Lawmakers want an audit to see how much undocumented kids are costing public schools. One lawmaker is proposing that officers and state troopers be given immigration enforcement authority to make arrests during traffic stops.

Proyecto Latino de Utah director Tony Yapias says he doesn't like the motives.

Tony Yapias: "It's nothing but pure intimidation. They are going to the point of being racist. I don't know any other way to look at it."

Latino community leaders are not alone in their opposition. Attorney General Mark Shurtleff says making troopers into immigration and customs agents is bad for public safety.
