WEST VALLEY CITY -- West Valley police have made an arrest in the murder of Kimberly Hain.
On Tuesday evening, police arrested Hain's 18-year-old neighbor Martin Vuksinick and booked him into jail on charges of criminal homicide.
Police believe Vuksinick acted alone and say he led them to the murder weapon, a baseball bat, that he had discarded in a field.
Investigators do not know if he had a relationship with Kimberly, and they gave no motive for the crime.
West Valley City police Capt. Tom McLachlan says the arrest is a relief to Kimberly Hain's family, but is obviously devastating to Vuksinick's family.
Thirty-three-year-old Kimberly Hain died from blunt force trauma to her head and face. She was discovered by her two children, who waited for their father to return home from his overnight nursing shift at a local hospital. He called 911.
On Tuesday, police released the home back to Kimberly's family. Her husband and some family members stopped by the home and took away personal effects Tuesday afternoon. Kimberly's father told us he was not ready to talk; he said Kimberly was his only daughter.
In an ironic twist, KSL also learned Tuesday that Kimberly Hain's brother-in-law is Zachary Hain, a man charged with two Sandy murders.
In September of 2005, police were called to a Sandy trailer park where two men had been stabbed; both died. Investigators arrested Zachary Hain and charged him with two counts of aggravated murder.
Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty, but so far Zachary Hain has been found mentally incompetent to stand trial and is in a state psychiatric facility.
