SALT LAKE CITY -- Orcs, fairies and aliens, they're all headed to the downtown Radisson for this year‘s Conduit Science Fiction and Fantasy convention.

Have you ever heard of Filk? Yes, there is such a thing.

Dawnya Thill, president of the Utah Filk Organization explained, "Filk is music that's based on science fiction, fantasy, horror [and] gaming."

She gave us an example and sang a song based on the no-name guy who dies while working with the main characters on Star Trek.

Conduit 19 Chairperson Pamela Oberg says this year's theme is "Evil Overlords." She said, "We celebrate science fiction and fantasy story telling in its many forms." She added, "We decided to have an Evil Overlord of Honor because, after all, he insisted, and that's Ming the Merciless."

But, they do get serious sometimes. They'll also have panels on becoming an author and some of the business tricks you should know. Conduit 19 will go through Sunday.
