SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Friday editions of the University of Utah student paper will be online only starting immediately.

The Daily Utah Chronicle says the move is a way to make up a $60,000 budget deficit.

Chronicle Editor in Chief Dustin Gardiner says the paper started the year with a $40,000 deficit and a decrease in ad sales this year has added another $20,000.

Gardiner said in a Thursday Chronicle story that he had hoped to avoid the change, but says eliminating Friday production is an environmentally friendly move.

The change will be in place until officials say it's financially possible to resume Friday printings.
