(KSL News) U.S. Bank plans to hire 80 people as it opens branches inside Smith's Food & Drugs Stores next February.

"Contrary to the current economic climate that is causing many companies to retrench, we're thrilled to be able to move forward with our plans to open inside area Smith's stores," said Amy Hurd, senior vice president and in-store region manager at U.S. Bank.

In September, U.S. Bank announced plans to assume the leases of 49 banking locations inside Smith's stores from Zions Bank. U.S. Bank will add 21 new Smith's branch locations in Utah and 28 in Nevada, and is expecting to hire more than 220 new employees by the end of the first quarter 2009.

Once the Smith's expansion is complete, U.S. Bank says it will become the largest full-service in-store branch-banking network in the U.S., with more than 600 in-store branches in 19 states.

U.S. Bank is hosting a job fair for interested applicants on Thursday, Dec. 11 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Spring Hill Marriott, 625 S. 300 W. in Salt Lake City. Applicants can also apply online if they can't attend the job fair.
