(KSL News) Students at a charter school in Eagle Mountain are getting a long weekend. That's because at least 60 children from the Ranches Academy are sick with a stomach virus.
The Utah County Health Department has determined it's a norovirus but is not sure where it came from. Parents got a letter warning of the illness that is very contagious.
"Lots of kids have been sick. There's something going around. They're not sure what the cause is yet, what the source is, so they're going to shut school down for two days and just clean it up," said Mischa Parco, mother of one of the students.
This charter school is separate from a neighboring daycare center called, the Ranches Kids Academy, which has not been infected with the virus.
A norovirus is spread through contaminated food or water, or by infected people.
The Ranches Academy charter school will reopen on Monday.
