People in Saratoga Springs are mourning the death of a 4-year-old boy who was killed yesterday morning in an accident.

A 15-year-old, without a driver's license, run over the young boy who was riding his bicycle.

It's been a heartbreaking loss for the family and the neighborhood, but police say the boy's parents are finding comfort in all of the community support they are receiving.

Community mourns death of 4-year-old boy

Cpl. Aaron Rosen, with the Saratoga Springs Police Department, says, "They are very appreciative of all of efforts of the community as people come together to provide an outpouring of love and support for their loss."

A sign that says, "Cooper, we miss you," along with stuffed animals, mark the spot of yesterday's tragic.

The neighborhood and its roads are privately owned by the local homeowners association (HOA), meaning that when it comes to enforcing traffic laws, Saratoga Springs police have their hands tied and can't issue traffic tickets for moving violations. "As it stands at the current time, we're not providing that type of enforcement there," Rosen says. "That may change because of this circumstance, they may review that and get together with the city and review it, but of course, that is between the HOA board and Saratoga Springs City administration."

Police do respond to crimes in the association that are not traffic related.

Detectives are still continuing their investigation into yesterday's accident, and when it is finished, the county attorney's office will review it for possible criminal charges.

Police have no officially released the full name of the 4-year-old.
