FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) -- A man accused of raping a Syracuse girl could be the first in the state to face spending 25 years to life in prison under a new state law.

Jonathan Kent Simmons, 29, pleaded not guilty to first-degree felony rape of a child and second-degree felony sex exploitation of a child at his arraignment Thursday.

The Legislature passed 'Jessicas Law' earlier this year and it requires anyone convicted of rape of a child, object rape of a child or sodomy on a child serve 25 years to life in prison.
