A drive-by shooting initially reported at 800 West and 300 North is turning out to be something completely different. For one thing, it wasn't a drive-by; for another, it didn't happen at 800 West and 300 North.
It was originally reported that a 24-year-old man and his girlfriend were walking in the area of 800 West and 300 North when someone driving by opened fire.
However, Salt Lake City police now say the 24-year-old man was leaving the California Club at 900 South and State Street when a fight broke out in the parking lot. They are unsure if he was part of the fight, but someone who involved in it fired shots, which hit the man.
The man waited to call police until he reached 800 West and 300 North. "He actually had left the area, and then called when he got to another area that was a little bit away, and that's when he called us and said that he had been shot in the foot," said Salt Lake police Detective Rick Wall.
Police are still looking for whoever pulled the trigger. The suspect vehicle was described as a black Ford pickup truck with oversized tires and some white lettering in the back window.
