Tom Callan reportingArson was the cause of that two-alarm fire that destroyed a two-story home in Cottonwood Heights.

Investigators say the fire was deliberately started when someone ignited a flammable liquid in the kitchen. "...very likely that the person that died in the fire may have been the person that started the fire," said Unified Fire Authority Capt. Jay Fearnley.

Fearnley says the fire killed a young man who lived in the house. "The body has been sent up to the medical examiner's office, and they will be doing an autopsy either today or tomorrow," he said.

The fire was so intense that it shot through the roof, burned down the entire second floor, and destroyed a shed attached to the garage.

Fearnley says whenever a fire spreads that rapidly, it usually suggests arson.
