SALT LAKE CITY — Police are investigating two robberies that took place in Salt Lake City and Murray on Sunday. They say both are apparently linked to a man who was wearing a dreadlocks wig.
About 9 p.m., a man entered a Shell gas station at 502 E. 2100 South where he brandished a handgun, demanded money from the clerk and fled the scene with the cash, according to Salt Lake police detective Greg Wilking.
The man was described as white, in his late teens or early 20s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, and he had acne scars on his face. Witnesses said they could see the man's blond hair underneath a "black, curly wig, almost like dreadlocks," Wilking said.
About 10:15 p.m., a man of a similar description took money at gunpoint from an employee behind the counter at Carl's Jr., 151 E. 5300 South, Murray.
Witnesses to the second incident described the man as wearing a black, long-sleeve shirt and gray sweat pants, with a white glove on his right hand. He was also wearing a "long, black curly wig," according to Murray Police Sgt. Mike Obrey.
Salt Lake and Murray police are investigating whether the same man was involved in both robberies.
"It sounds similar, but we haven't been able to confirm that it is one in the same," Wilking said. "But we're working with other agencies to see if we have a serial bandit on our hands."
