MAGNA — A brush fire has burned more than 15 acres in Magna.
The fire started just after midnight near 9200 West just north of state Route 201.
Firefighters said a transformer exploded on the south side of the road, but the fire began on the other end of the line, on the north side.
The flames quickly spread through the brush on Kennecott property and burned several power poles. Crews were concerned about several structures.
“Our crews have worked to make sure that those are protected and have created defensives around those to minimize the possibilities that they might burn,” said Battalion Chief Brian Anderton of the Unified Fire Authority.
The fire is contained, meaning firefighters have surrounded it. However, hot pockets continue to burn.
Anderton said crews will remain on scene throughout Thursday morning, cutting down the brush and making sure no other power poles catch fire.
