SALT LAKE CITY — Police are searching for a man after he attempted to steal from a Walgreens and pepper-sprayed an employee.
The attempted robbery occurred at the Walgreens at 531 E. 400 South around 12:49 p.m. Sunday, according to Salt Lake City Police Sgt. Robin Heiden. A man entered the store and put various items into a shopping cart. Heiden said the man then attempted to exit the Walgreens without paying for the items.
He was stopped by a female employee before he exited the store. The man sprayed pepper spray at the employee and then fled the scene without the shopping cart full of items. The employee was treated by medics at the scene.
Witnesses described the man as a white male in his 20s, around 5 feet 7 and 140 pounds. The man was wearing a shirt with black and yellow lettering, a black baseball hat and black pants at the time of the incident. The man also has a large tattoo on the right side of his neck.
Heiden said anyone with information about the attempted robbery or the man should contact the Salt Lake City Police Department at 801-799-3000.
