SALT LAKE CITY — An Olympus High School student is a finalist in a national contest to design a Google Doodle.

Bronte Mock is one of 50 finalists in the contest, which challenged students across the country to come up with a doodle that matches the theme: “If I Could Invent One Thing to Make the World a Better Place ….”

Mock’s drawing has six biodegradable plastic water bottles each featuring one letter of the word “Google.” Her artist's statement reads: "30-Day Plastic is a product to replace plastic that will biodegrade within a month. This invention will change the world for the better. It will provide the same benefits as plastic without consuming the landfill, emitting hazardous waste, and other environmentally impacting issues."

Artists K-12 nationwide doodled their inventions for the contest, and Mock has advanced to the final round. If her drawing garners the most votes, her art will be featured on the site’s home page for a day. She will also receive a $30,000 scholarship, and Olympus High will get a $50,000 technology grant.

Voting ends May 9.
