LAYTON — A Clearfield man was arrested and booked into jail after police said he tried to carjack a woman's vehicle Tuesday morning, and another man said he witnessed the entire incident.
Nick Phelps said he was driving his son to school on U.S. 89 around 8 a.m. Tuesday when he saw a woman "running for her life." Phelps said at the intersection of Oak Hills Drive, a young female driver jumped out of the car in front of him.
"I rolled down the window and I'm like, 'Are you okay?’ ” Phelps said. "She said, ‘He's attacking me! He's attacking me!’ ”
Phelps said he saw a man jump from the passenger seat of the car into the driver's seat.
"He's just trying to get this thing to (drive),” Phelps said. "I can tell he's just going all out to try to get this car to go."
The man, later identified as 29-year-old Kyle Booher, couldn't work the manual transmission in the car and he jumped out the car too and started running after the woman. Phelps said he saw the woman fall.

A woman was assaulted after a man got in her unlocked car with her Tuesday, police said."As she fell, the guy threw his jacket on the ground, and just started running after her," Phelps said.
Phelps said he knew he needed to help the woman and so he stepped into action.
"I just cruised across incoming traffic and I said, 'Get in the car! 'Get in the car!’ ” Phelps said.
Phelps said the woman jumped into his car, and Booher was still chasing after them as they drove away. The 18-year-old woman had called 911 as she was running away from Booher and police officers met the woman and Phelps at a nearby convenience store.
The woman told Phelps that Booher had jumped into her car at the stoplight of the intersection and demanded a ride. But that when she didn't respond, Booher grabbed her by the throat and hit her head against the car window.
Davis County deputies arrested Booher along the highway. They said he was under the influence of drugs and had to be wrestled to the ground.
"He was a scary looking dude," Phelps said.
The victim was treated for minor injuries after the incident. Booher faces felony charges of aggravated assault and robbery.
