LAYTON — A woman was assaulted after a man got in her unlocked car with her Tuesday, police said.

Around 8 a.m. Tuesday, an 18-year-old Layton resident was waiting on Oak Hills Drive to turn left onto U.S. 89 when she saw a man identified as Kyle Douglas Booher, 29, approach the passenger side of her vehicle, according to police.

Before she could lock the doors, Booher got into the passenger seat, grabbed her by the throat and shoved her head against the driver’s side window, Layton police said. The woman told police Booher then calmed down and requested a ride. She refused, exited her car and ran away. A Layton resident who saw the incident gave her a ride to a convenience store.

Booher attempted to drive away in her car, but he appeared to have difficulty with the manual transmission, the woman told police.

Officers who were in the area confronted Booher, who had followed the woman, police said. Booher did not comply with police, and officers forced him to the ground before taking him into custody, they reported.

Police suspect Booher was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident. He was booked into Davis County Jail on suspicion of robbery, a second degree felony, and interfering with arresting officers, a class B misdemeanor.

According to court documents, Booher pled guilty in October 2011 for possession or use of drug paraphernalia.
