SALT LAKE CITY — Two banks located within a few blocks of each other, were robbed within minutes of each other Monday. But police do not believe the two incidents are connected.
The robberies were about 12 minutes apart at a Bank of Utah, 711 S. State, and Brighton Bank, 1735 S. 300 West, starting just before 12:30 p.m.
In the Bank of Utah robbery, a man wearing all black went inside and demanded money from the clerk, said Salt Lake Police Sgt. Robin Heiden. He left with an undisclosed amount of cash.
At Brighton Bank, two men took a cab from a nearby Wal-Mart to the bank and told the cab driver to wait while one man ran inside.
"He sits and waits outside thinking they're going to make a normal transaction," said Salt Lake Police Lt. Scott White.
Instead, the man robbed the bank. But just as he was about to jump back in the cab, a dye pack exploded, White said. Both suspects then ran from the scene.
