OGDEN — A paragliding accident caused a major power outage in southeast Ogden Wednesday.

Along with two others in their own crafts, a paraglider pilot was taking off in the Mount Ogden Park, near 32nd Street and Taylor Avenue, when he hit a power line, Ogden Fire Department reported. The crash caused a small grass fire above the seventh hole of Mount Ogden Golf Course and a power outage.

The two other paraglider pilots landed safely and were not harmed.

Emergency responders arrived on scene and put out the fire. After an evaluation, paramedics released the pilot, Ogden Fire Department said.

Rocky Mountain Power was on scene, working to restore power to the area. The power outage affected more than 8,700 customers throughout Ogden, South Ogden and Uintah. Officials expected the power to be restored around 7 p.m.

Weber State University was affected briefly, but lights were back on and classes were being held as usual, the university tweeted.

The power outage was affecting traffic lights, causing "major delays" to buses, including the 473, Utah Transit Authority said. Riders can visit the Route UT OnTime app for current information.
