SANDY — A woman working at a dry cleaning company in Sandy experienced a close call when an SUV plowed through the front window, barely missing her.

Alyssa Brimley was performing her normal duties behind the front desk at Trailside Dry Cleaning, 10669 S. State Street in Sandy. Just after 7:30 a.m. a blue Ford Escape crashed through the store front.

"Just right through the window — glass was flying everywhere," she said. "I was just like, is this really happening right now? So many thoughts were running through my head."

Brimley doesn't usually work mornings but was covering for someone else.

"My manager usually has her three kids running around. We're so lucky I was here and not them," Brimley said.

The children often play near the front window, she added.

Sandy police are investigating the crash and say the 56-year-old driver showed no signs of impairment.

"He thought he was stopping and for whatever reason (the SUV) didn't," said Sgt. Jon Arnold of the Sandy City Police Department.

The owners are left with the clean-up but say they're just grateful everyone is safe.

"The fortunate thing is no one was hurt. The unfortunate thing is we now have a makeshift drive through for the store," Arnold said.

Despite the damage, the business remains open.

No charges have been filed.
