Moving 'alco-pops' to state stores may pose problems

Andrew Adams reportingBanning so-called "alco-pops" from grocery aisles and forcing them to the state liquor stores could possibly constitute a de facto ban.

State liquor stores don't have the capacity, nor do they have the refrigerators, to keep the alco-pops cold. Draper Republican Representative Greg Hughes says vendors may not allow them to be sold that way.

"If they're not comfortable, they'll take them out. There certainly is a political will to do something, so we just have to be careful how we move forward," he said.

He says lawmakers want to keep the drinks away from teens without being accused of bringing back prohibition.
