WEST JORDAN — A woman was injured Friday in an accident on Redwood Road that left the road shut down in both directions for hours.

An 18-year-old woman in a red Infiniti was driving eastbound on 7600 South when she attempted a left turn onto Redwood Road, according to Lt. Rich Bell with the West Jordan Police Department. Traffic at that intersection is controlled by stop signs for 7600 South traffic.

The woman attempted a left turn at about 11:45 a.m. and pulled into the path of a Mitsubishi Eclipse traveling southbound on Redwood Road. The driver of the Eclipse was unable to stop in time and broadsided the Infiniti.

The woman was unconscious and flown via medical helicopter to Intermountain Medical Center after being extricated from her vehicle. The extent of her injuries is currently unknown, although they appear to be "serious and potentially life-threatening," according to Bell.

The driver of the Eclipse received minor injuries.

Redwood Road remained closed at 7500 South in both directions for a few hours, but all lanes had been reopened as of about 3:30 p.m. Friday.
