(KSL News) Jury selection has begun in the capital murder trial of Floyd Eugene Maestas. He is accused of robbing and murdering 75-year-old Donna Lou Bott three and a half years ago.
If convicted, Maestas could face the death penalty. This is the first time such a sentence has been at stake in Utah since 1994.
Lawyers for Maestas had argued he should not be eligible for the death penalty because of diminished mental capacity. A judge ruled against them, saying Maestas was intelligent enough.
