Lance Bandley reportingCyclists are responding to one Utah City Councilman who wants to put a tax on cyclists who use roads.

Oakley City Councilman DelRay Hatch says cyclists should be taxed to use the roads. He even joked if they don't pay he'll run them over. While he was joking about that he's dead serious about the tax.

"I think it's pretty silly."

Cyclists say they can't ride on the sidewalk or they get fined. Plus cyclists say they help the commute by taking cars off the roads.

"We have to abide by the same rules as the cars yet you know we don't have our own bike lanes, we don't have our own parking lanes. People find it's necessary to park right in the middle of a bike lane, opening their doors, parking half way through with construction vehicles."

Cyclists say the only way they could see paying taxes for using their bikes is if there is a bike lane on every road.
