WEST JORDAN — Eight packages being delivered by FedEx were taken out of a Penske rental truck parked in an LDS Church parking lot Saturday night.

Tom Suseata is an independent contractor for FedEx who had hired a worker and rented a truck to help deliver packages for the company during the busy season.

Often, packages that could not be delivered will be taken to a driver's home for the night.

Thieves cut the lock and took the packages inside. Suseata said they likely did not know what they were getting.

"Somebody came and cut off the lock and got in there, not knowing it was a FedEx truck," he said. I'm sure they were just looking for anything to steal and took all the packages out."

The practice of taking trucks and packages home for an evening is common and acceptable, so long as the packages are secured.

Suseata said he's never had packages stolen before.

"First time I've ever heard of it happening," he said.

The packages' owners will be notified on Monday by FedEx.

"Hopefully it's not going to be Christmas presents for their kids," Suseata said.
