(KSL News) Taylorsville police now have to restrain themselves when it comes to chasing criminal suspects.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports the police department changed its pursuit policy so officers can only chase drivers wanted for violent felonies, like aggravated assault.
It came in response to a police chase that ended with an innocent man dead. He was hit by officer Joseph Corbett, who was trying to join a chase on February 7. That officer is still awaiting trial for negligent homicide.
West Valley City police and the Utah Highway Patrol are now the only agencies in Salt Lake County that can chase criminals for lesser crimes.
