SOUTH SALT LAKE -- A team of officers arrested a drug suspect in South Salt Lake overnight but couldn't help thinking about the deadly shooting in Ogden Wednesday.

Officers from the Joint Criminal Apprehension Team, Unified Police Department and Salt Lake City Police Department helped in Thursday night's arrest.

First they staked out a house in South Salt Lake where they thought the suspect would be hiding. Unified police Det. Shane Manwaring says what happened in Ogden was top of mind.

"It's very sobering and it really does make you stop and think about what you're doing every day. We suit up, we go out every day, and you can't let the thought of death and injury creep in and follow you while you're working," he said.

Manwaring said it's difficult not to feel the impact of the Ogden shootings. "It's hard to not internalize that and realize that could happen to you at any point," he said.

A car took off from the house and eluded officers long enough for the suspect to get out and run. Officers found him hiding in some bushes a block away and arrested him.

Det. Manwarning said his team is constantly trying to arrest violent fugitives. Before going out on calls Thursday night, his task force talked about their tactics.
