ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) -- Potential jurors are filling out 75-item questionnaires in St. George this morning.
A pool of 300 people was called from which jurors will be selected to hear the felony case against Warren Jeffs, leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
The activities today are being held at the Dixie Center. A ballroom is filled with 300 chairs, tables for prosecutors and defense lawyers and an elevated table for the judge.
The people saw a video about jury service. The attorneys and judge were introduced.
The jurors then had to fill out a questionnaire with 75 items. The questions will be made public later.
Jeffs is charged with two counts of rape as an accomplice. He is accused of coercing the 2001 religious union and rape of a 14-year-old girl to her 19-year-old cousin. In Utah, a 14-year-old girl cannot legally consent to sex.
