UTAH COUNTY -- Many cemeteries in Utah County are running out of space.

Earlier KSL reported the Murray city cemetery, in Salt Lake County, is at the verge of running out of plots.

The Daily Herald now reports the Provo cemetery is down to about a 1,100 plots to sell. Spanish Fork has about 1,700. Approximately 300 plots are available at the Alpine cemetery, and American Fork has 100 spaces left.

All of these cemeteries are either working on expansion plans or looking to buy more land.

The paper said two factors contributing to the lack of space are a surge of aging baby boomers and rapid population growth in the area.

Provo's sexton said that cemetery averages 300 burials a year.
