SANTAQUIN -- A longtime news broadcaster who formerly worked at KSL TV died in a car accident in central Utah Thursday.

Gaylen Young, 59, was killed when the car he was riding in hit another vehicle in the northbound lanes of I-15 near Santaquin. The impact sent the other vehicle through the median and into the opposite side of the freeway, coming to a rest in the emergency lane. After the initial collision, Young's vehicle also hit the median and rolled several times.

Young was thrown from the vehicle. His 16-year-old son, Walker Young, who was driving, suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle, 41-year-old Laura Christensen of South Jordan, suffered only minor injuries. Gaylen Young worked at KSL as the Ogden Bureau reporter and anchored the noon newscasts in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s. He then worked in radio and TV for more than 30 years in central and southern California.
