(KSL News) A fiery crash in Wasatch County Sunday forced officials to shut down Highway 40 near Currant Creek for hours.
The crash left the asphalt so damaged crews have been on the scene trying to fix the road.
Pictures sent to us from a viewer show that a Ford truck slammed head-on into a tanker. Officials say the tanker usually carries crude oil. At the time of the accident, it was empty.
Still, flames poured from the vehicle, and the tanker burned to the ground.
Investigators say the driver of the truck fell asleep at the wheel.
Crews had to cut him out of the truck. He's hospitalized in critical condition.
A passenger survived; so did the driver of the tanker.
