Suspect shot by WVC officers dies

WEST VALLEY CITY — Police shot and killed a knife-wielding man while investigating a report of an assault Friday night.

Officers arrived at 3676 W. Bawden Ave. about 7:50 p.m. to find Brandon Eric Chief holding a knife, according to a news release from West Valley police.

At least one officer fired his weapon at Chief, striking him multiple times in the chest. The man was transported by ambulance to an area hospital, where he later was pronounced dead.

No officers were injured in the incident.

West Valley police and the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office are investigating the incident. Officers involved have been put on administrative leave while the investigation is conducted.
