Tornado reported in Lake Powell area

SALT LAKE CITY -- The National Weather Service says a tornado may have touched down in the Lake Powell area.

Radar indicated a tornado formed 40 miles southwest of Bullfrog at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The Weather Service also reported thunderstorms were dropping hail the size of pingpong balls in the area.

A tornado warning quickly expired for southern Utah, but meteorologists say central Utah remains a target until 6 p.m. MDT Wednesday.

A tornado watch has been issued for the following counties:

  • Emery County
  • Garfield County
  • Grand County
  • Kane County
  • Piute County
  • Sanpete County
  • San Juan County
  • Sevier County
  • Wayne County

A flash flood warning has also been issued for the same nine counties until 6 p.m. Wednesday
