WENDOVER -- Medical examiners may need more time than usual to identify a body found at a potash plant in Tooele County Tuesday.
County officials say it may take a week or more to identify the remains.
That's difficult news for several families that are already asking if the body could be that of their missing relatives.
"We've had a couple of contacts. Of course there is absolutely no information that we can give them at this point in time," said Frank Park with the Tooele County Sheriff's office. "That determination is going to be through dental records or DNA or some process that the medical examiner's office, hopefully, can solve."
Someone spotted the skeletal remains near Wendover. Detectives say the body has likely been there several years.
The Tooele County Sheriff's Office finished collecting evidence Wednesday and will determine if the body was exposed to any chemicals.
Park says medical examiners are finishing their investigation and will release additional information as it comes.
Until then, county officials say they are using a list of missing persons to help put an identity to the body's remains.
