Press release. LEHI - Students at Renaissance Academy in Lehi had an unusual fire drill. At 9 a.m. Friday, the students exited to the field where they formed giant letters "MS" from an orange paper chain.
The student body and faculty are showing support for their music teacher, Pamela Whitney, who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis.
This served as one final pep rally for team Renaissance Phoenix Fighters, who will be walking in the MS Walk Saturday morning at Exchange Park in Provo.
This past month students have used their knack for technology to help raise awareness for the walk. They filmed an "Orange Pencil Dance" for YouTube and have posted information to their service blog site.
Students plastered the front hallway of the school with orange cards and letters of support for their teacher. Also posted on the orange wall is information and educational facts about the life-altering disease MS.
"I was nervous at first making my MS public," says Whitney, "but the support has been overwhelming and has opened the door for other teachers and students to talk about their own personal struggles."
Renaissance Academy is a charter school in Lehi. The Provo MS Walk is one of many service projects students have planned and participated in this year.
