STANFORD, Calif. (AP) — Chad Barrett headed home Shea Salinas' free kick in the 90th minute to give the San Jose Earthquakes a 1-1 draw with Los Angeles Galaxy in the final matchup of the 2016 California Clasico on Saturday night.

Giovani dos Santos opened the scoring for the Galaxy (5-3-8) in the 69th minute, finishing Steven Gerrard's wide cross with a header into the right corner of the goal.

It was the 58th regular-season MLS meeting in the rivalry that started April 28, 1996. The Quakes (5-4-7) began hosting the early summer edition of the rivalry in Stanford Stadium in 2012 and set an attendance record Saturday night with 50,816.

The Galaxy claimed the rivalry cup for 2016 with a 3-1 victory over the Quakes on March 19 and a 1-1 draw on May 22.

Ashley Cole was sent off for violent conduct in the 97th minute and a short skirmish followed at midfield.
