ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Apostolos Vellios' solo effort and score from a tight angle in the first half was enough for Iraklis to beat Panathinaikos 1-0 in the Greek league on Saturday.
The win kept Panathinaikos eight points adrift of league leader Olympiakos, which hosts Asteras on Sunday, and allowed Panionios, a 2-0 winner over Giannena, to catch Panathinaikos in second place, but with one more game played.
Iraklis was in eighth place.
Also, Panthrakikos beat host Atromitos 2-1.
