ATLANTA (AP) — Atlanta Hawks forward Paul Millsap will be rested for three weeks and will miss the first two preseason games following a procedure to reduce swelling in his right knee.

The Hawks say Millsap recently had "a preventative procedure" and will have "phases of rest and recovery" for the next three weeks before returning to full basketball activities.

Hawks coach and president of basketball operations Mike Budenholzer says the procedure was timed to make sure Millsap is ready for the regular season.

Millsap led the Hawks with his averages of 17.1 points and 9.0 rebounds last season.

The Hawks will open training camp at the University of Georgia on Tuesday.
