FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky State has hired former Thorobreds basketball player and coach William Graham as athletic director.

Graham, 69, who played at KSU from 1967-71 and was on two NAIA national championship teams, has been director of the school's William Exum Center arena the past 12 years. He replaces William K. Head, who returned for a second stint as AD last September.

Graham was drafted by both the NBA's Phoenix Suns and the ABA's Denver Rockets in 1971 before eventually signing with the Suns. He returned to KSU in 1976 as a basketball and baseball assistant coach before going to Alabama State as a men's basketball assistant.

Another stint at KSU followed from 1989-96 as Thorobreds basketball coach before he became assistant director of the Exum Center and eventually director in 2004.
